Elderly woman killed in Blue Ridge house fire

A fire in Blue Ridge this morning has killed an elderly woman. The 69 year old and a 74 year old man were trapped in the house after the blaze broke out sometime before 2:20 a.m.

The man managed to get out and was taken by STARS Air Ambulance to a hospital in Edmonton. He has since been released, but the woman’s body was found inside the home. Whitecourt RCMP responded, along with fire departments from Whitecourt and Blue Ridge and Associated Ambulance.

Corporal Martin Lajeunesse with Whitecourt RCMP says the fire was contained to the laundry room and the house was not destroyed. Police are investigating, along with the Alberta Fire Commissioners Office and Edmonton Medical Examiner. The cause of the fire is not being released.
