Geoff Walker, Team Gushue win first Brier

It took 14 appearances, but Brad Gushue has finally won a Brier title. Even with a shoulder injury for lead Geoff Walker of Beaverlodge, the Newfoundland and Labrador team beat Kevin Koe’s Team Canada 7-6 Sunday in St. John’s.

The final was a rematch of last year, when Koe came out on top for his third tankard. Earlier in the day, Manitoba’s Mike McEwen defeated Northern Ontario’s Brad Jacobs 7-5 in an extra end to win bronze.

The rink of Gushue, Mark Nichols, Brett Gallant, and Walker will represent Canada at the Ford World Men’s Curling Championship in Edmonton from April 1st to 9th.
