Public Interest Alberta launched its “Alberta Could…” campaign this spring, and is holding a public forum tonight in Grande Prairie. Executive Director Bill Moore-Kilgannon explains they’d like to start a conversation about what could happen if the province adopts a progressive income tax.
“Low and middle income earners are actually paying more in income tax than B-C and Ontario because we have a flat tax. If we had a progressive system that would only increase taxes on the top 10 percent of income earners we could actually be doing significantly better.”
The non-partisan advocacy organization wants to hear from residents about what their investment priorities are, to get an idea of what the estimated two-billion additional dollars could mean. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Public Library.
