Two new schools in the Grande Prairie area are expected to open over the next year and construction for both appears to be on track. The first to welcome students will be Roy Bickell Public School, slated to open on September 5th in the Royal Oaks area.

The K to 8 school will have room for 600 students, and will be a LEED certified silver building. Secretary-Treasurer for the Grande Prairie Public School District Jeff Olson says interior work is being done right now, and floor should start right away.

The new Whispering Ridge Community School is still set for a January 2018 opening. Peace Wapiti School Division says the steel crew has been on site since February and the walls of the building are starting to take shape. The Q-deck crew got to work at the end of the month has been busy installing the east wing second floor and roof.

The school will include a special band room with a curtain that opens to the second-floor common area for special presentations. It will also have a dedicated art room and a dry construction classroom things like cardboard construction and 3D printing.
