UPDATE: Extreme cold warning ends for parts of the region

UPDATE: The extreme cold warning for parts of the peace has ended.

Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for parts of the peace country. The warning is issued for areas like Spirit River, Rycroft, Grimshaw and Fairview areas. Temperatures could drop to as low as minus 45 with the windchill at times.

Hypothermia and frost bite are worries in this type of weather and people should dress appropriately. Babies, the elderly, people working outside, and homeless are some of many that could be at risk of getting hypothermia or frost bite.

Environment Canada also recommends protecting pets by limiting their time outside. They also remind people that if it is too cold for you outside, it is too cold for your pet.

Grande Prairie is expecting minus 36 with the windchill as points this morning and minus 27 for the afternoon.
