Storm up against closest rival in first round of playoffs

The Grande Prairie Storm won’t have to go very far to get their first taste of playoff action since 2013. Their first round matchup is against the Whitecourt Wolverines, their closest competition.

The bus trip is only three hours, meaning they likely to see a big group of fans filling up the cheering section. It also means less travel time than to other potential match ups.

The best-of-five series will be a tough one, though. The Wolverines are the highest scoring team in the league, and finished second in the AJHL’s North Division. Out of the six times the two teams met this year, they only gave up one loss.

Games one and two will be Thursday and Friday in Whitecourt, and then game three at Revolution Place. Puck drop at 7:30 p.m. If needed, game four will be at home as well.
