Cars for Christmas Lottery raises another $245K for local groups

Local charities like the Grande Prairie and Area Council on Aging and the Traditional Paths Society have earned $245,000 for their involvement with this year’s Cars for Christmas Lottery. The groups teamed up with the Swan City Rotary Club to sell tickets, and then get a portion of the proceeds.

Over the past 17 years the lottery has brought in more than $5.2 million. When coupled with the Cash and Camping Lottery, the total raised is $9.6 million.

The funds this round will also support the Grande Prairie & District Catholic Schools Education Foundation’s breakfast, snack and lunch programs, along with community projects run by the Rotary Club of Grande Prairie After Five.

Big Brothers Big Sisters has gotten support for their in-school mentoring program, and dollars will help low-income families attend Camp Tamarack, and keep Grande Prairie Army Cadets free. They’ll also keep costs affordable at the Grande Prairie Skating Club, cover vet bills for Bandaged Paws, and support the special needs program at Grande Prairie Gymnastics.
