RCMP remind drivers to wear seat belts

RCMP are reminding everyone to buckle up after noticing the number of drivers using seat belts is going down. There was a around 95 per cent of Albertans using their belts in 2011, according to Alberta Transportation.

Last year, there were over 10,000 tickets issued in the province. Officer Steve Daley says putting on a seat belt is the smart thing to do as it improves your chances of surviving a serious collision by 50 per cent. On top of that, it is also the law and it is a $155 fine for not wearing a seat belt.

Children under 6 or under 40 pounds must also be in a proper car seat. The same fine applies when kids are not in a seat when they should be.
