Funding to provide growth for Grande Prairie region: Minister Bilous

The province has announce funding for three projects in the region directed at growing the economy. Around $175,000 is provided through the Community and Regional Economic Support Program with the MD of Greenview, the County of Grande Prairie, and the City of Grande Prairie receiving a chunk.

Minister of Economic Development Deron Bilous says it is all part of a plan to keep people in the province and the region while building the economy.

“All three of them have potential to create thousands of jobs through the development and support businesses here in the region.”

The city of Grande Prairie received around $17,500 to launch a business incubator for start up entrepreneurs.

“It is very exciting. We know that in an economic downturn the number of start ups increases significantly. This is a way to give start ups an opportunity to be supported and increase their chances of growth.”

The MD of Greenview received around $37,000 to put towards a site plan and analysis for petrochemical production in the peace region.

The County of Grande Prairie received $120,500 towards an economic development and growth strategy they are working on. The plan is set to have a final draft complete by December 2017 with a snapshot of the future of the next 50 years.

Minister Bilous made the announcement at the Growing the North Conference at Evergreen Park. He is set to make another announcement during the second day of presentations.
