Métis Settlement creates detour around fatal crash

A man has been killed in a crash with a semi on Highway 35. High Level RCMP responded to the head on collision 15 kilometres south of Paddle Prairie just after 8 a.m. Tuesday morning.

The semi driver wasn’t hurt, but the 36 year old man driving the car it hit was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity has not been released.

An RCMP collision analyst says road and weather conditions weren’t a factor in the fatal crash, but the car had cross the centre line into oncoming traffic. Charges won’t be laid against the driver of the truck.

The highway was closed for about an hour, but people from the Paddle Prairie Métis Settlement were able to help drivers detour through a field using heavy equipment.
