Robbery suspect pulls hatchet on grocery store worker

RCMP have arrested a man accused of threatening a grocery store worker with a hatchet. Police were called to the shop at 99th Street and 115th Avenue around 2:20 this afternoon.

Witnesses say the employee confronted a man who was believed to have stolen things from the store, and that’s when he pulled the hatchet. The worker wasn’t hurt. The suspect ran off, but officers were able to track him down and arrest him without incident.

Corporal Shawn Graham says the man is known to police and was already wanted in connection with other criminal investigations. The 36 year old Grande Prairie remains in police custody, but his won’t be released until he is formally charged.

We’ve reached out to RCMP to see whether this incident is connected to another at a south side grocery store on February 1st when a shoplifter threatened a worker with a knife.
