UPDATE: Gas smell on 128th Avenue not an emergency leak

UPDATE: ATCO Gas says what was reported by the City Friday is not an emergency. The company says there is an ongoing to repair to a line in that area, and some permits for work were applied for Friday.

Crews are venting gas and monitoring it over the weekend, so depending on the way the wind is blowing you might smell gas. Barricades will be up in the area, but work isn’t scheduled to start until Tuesday.

An emergency gas leak has been reported on 128th Avenue between 99th and 100th Street. The City of Grande Prairie says there’s no current threat to the public, but the road will be closed at times until further notice.

ATCO Gas is working to repair the leak during business hours, but all stores in the area are still open. Drivers are asked to find a different route and to watch for workers and construction signs.
