Driver hit by runaway pipe on Highway 40

A driver is recovering in hospital after being hit by a pipe that fell off an oncoming truck this morning. RCMP say the crash happened some time before 7:30 a.m. on Highway 40 just north of Gold Creek.

The three foot long pipe reportedly flew off the back of the truck, went through the windshield of another, and bounced off the dashboard before hitting the driver in the shoulder. The 55 year old man was taken to the QEII Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The oncoming truck is described as a red Dodge one ton with a flat bed. It may have had welding equipment on it. The Schedule 40 carbon pipe was three inches wide. Anyone who could help police find the truck and driver involved is asked to contact the detachment or Crime Stoppers.
