County to provide funds for Canada 150 celebrations

The County of Grande Prairie will be providing some grant money for those celebrating Canada’s 150th Birthday within the county boundaries. They will be awarding up to $10,000 to those communities that are commemorating the day through an event, program or legacy activity.

In order to be picked, a community within the county must meet at least one of items on their list of criteria. It can include adding Canada 150 programming to an existing event or be a specific Canada 150 event, fair or activity. The list also includes things like monuments, interpretive tours and ceremony for a site dedication.

The county will only give one grant per community and encourage communities to work together on a collective celebration. They plan to give out up to $100,000 to groups that meet the requirements.

Applications are accepted as of February 15th, 2017 and the process with close on March 31st, 2017. The successful applicants will be notified on May 15th, 2017.
