Cat wakes family up to Clairmont mobile home fire

A Clairmont family managed to escape a house fire early this morning thanks to the efforts of their cat. It was around 3:30 a.m. when the feline let them know something was wrong. Fire Chief Trevor Grant says the cat bit one of its owners hard on the arm, and when she woke up she noticed the smoke.

County of Grande Prairie firefighters from the Clairmont, Dunes, and Sexsmith stations responded quickly and were able to contain the fire to the underside of the mobile home. No one was injured, and the cause of the blaze is under investigation. While some damage was done to piping, Grant says the family should be able to move back in eventually.
