Smokers to back up from rec centre doors

You will need to back up 5 more metres from recreation buildings when lighting up a cigarette. A change to a bylaw has smokers move back 10 metres from the door of places like the Coca Cola Centre or East Link Centre. The change also includes Gymniks, Dave Barr Community Centre and the Leisure Centre.

After some City Councillors had gotten fed up with walking through a cloud of smoke on their way into fitness facilities, the bylaw was proposed. The original location was 5 metres from the entrances. To help people make the change, the city is working on moving ashtrays further back.

If caught close to buildings, the rule breaker will be given education about the change but down the road, the city will look into security guards being able to issue tickets.
