Grande Prairie woman facing charges after fatal collision

A Grande Prairie woman is facing multiple charges after a collision that killed three people. In May 2016, emergency personnel attended the scene on Highway 2 at the Drift Pile First Nation. RCMP say an SUV driving westbound struck a van driving eastbound on a bridge. The van then caught fire. A bystander was able to pull a 4 year old out of the vehicle.

A 36 year old woman, a 12 year old, and 11 month old girl were pronounced dead at the scene. Two 17 year old passengers were also treated for minor injuries.

58 year old Edna Jean Smith has been charged with criminal negligence causing death and criminal negligence causing bodily harm. She will be in High Prairie court on January 30th.
