UPDATE: Grande Prairie electoral boundaries hearing cancelled

UPDATE: Tonight’s Electoral Boundaries Commission public hearing in Grande Prairie has been cancelled due to unsafe travel conditions. Anyone wishing to give input is encouraged to send in a written submission online by February 8th.

Grande Prairie residents will get to talk about whether its provincial political ridings should change tonight. The Alberta Electoral Boundaries Commission will be in town to hear residents thoughts on changing the local constituencies to have once cover the city and one cover the rural area. Right now the Swan City is cut down the middle.

The commission is taking a look at all of the province’s 87 ridings, taking into account the changing population. The five member committee will be at the Sandman Hotel starting at 7 p.m. following a meeting in Peace River this morning. Their interim report should be done by May.
