A not-for-profit organization is trying to bring awareness about opioid dependency in Grande Prairie. Nurse Practitioner with CAMP Bonnie Braun says fentanyl use is popping up more in the community. She says it goes beyond making people aware as well.
“Support, not for us, for our clients. We need people to be more accepting our clients that are using our services and understand that you cannot just one day stop your fentanyl or opioid use. You need that support from other people.”
She says people need to get rid of the stigma surrounding the topic.
The organization provides naloxone kits and provides treatment for those on the opioid drugs. The nurse explains that they use methodone and suboxone for those that have an opioid dependency when they come into their facility located in the CAIRN building.
Braun says one thing that could be used in Grande Prairie is a safe injection site.
