Rycroft Arena President warns others after theft

The President of the Rycroft Arena board is warning other volunteer boards to put safeguards in place when it comes to fundraising dollars. Former volunteer Treasurer for the Arena Amy Lyne plead guilty to theft over $5,000 after money had not made it into the facility’s bank account. Lyne will be sentenced on June 6th, 2017.

President DJ Barbarich says over the course of three fundraisers, just under $89,000 went missing.

“Personally, it’s embarrassing… you feel like you’ve been robbed by somebody that you know. You trusted this person.”

Barbarich adds that having little money made it tough for the arena to stay open this year and if there were any big problem that needed to be fixed, it would be hard with the funds they currently have.

“If anything bad happened like a break down or major failure, we might be in dire straits. As long as everything holds together for another year, we should be okay.”

The president adds that they are going to be very careful with funds from this point forward and have started to implement systems to keep everyone in check.

The board will put on their next spring fundraiser at the end of February.
