UPDATE: Extreme cold warnings ended for Peace River, Fox Creek regions

UPDATE: The warnings for the area have ended.

An extreme cold warning has been issued for parts of the Peace region. The region that spans from Fairview to Peace River, High Prairie and Manning is affected, along with Whitecourt and Fox Creek. Very cold wind chills are expected, dipping as low as minus 40 to minus 45.

Hypothermia and frost bite are worries in this type of weather and people should dress appropriately. Babies, the elderly, people working outside, and homeless are some of many that could be at risk of getting hypothermia or frost bite, if they are not dressed warmly. Environment Canada also recommends protecting pets from the cold by limiting their time outside.

Here in Grande Prairie we’re looking at an overnight low of minus 25, feeling like minus 30 with the windchill.
