Grande Prairie RCMP are reminding businesses to check their bills to make sure they are real. Police recently found counterfeit money at local businesses in the form of $100 Canadian bills as well as U.S. cash in the form of $50 and $100.
Officers say there are security features on Canadian money and they are hoping businesses will take a look on their money to help intercept counterfeits. Police recommend businesses learn the security features of both the Canadian and American money.
If you suspect someone is using bogus cash, police say to politely refuse it and ask for another form of payment. You should also send them to RCMP to check it and Inform police that someone had possibly tried to use fake money.
Businesses that find a piece of fake money after a transaction should contact the RCMP.
