A man was not seriously injured after punching a cougar to save his dog. A Red Deer man was walking his dog near a wooded area near Tim Hortons in Whitecourt on Boxing Day when his dog was attacked by the wild animal.
After whacking the cougar on the side of the head, it let go of his dog. RCMP and Whitecourt Fish and Wildlife had to kill the cat.
The dog needed to go to the vet to get claw and bite injuries tended to but the pet has been released and is doing fine.
