Francophone games begin tomorrow in Grande Prairie

The 20th edition of the Alberta Francophone Games begin tomorrow in Grande Prairie. Close to 400 athletes will be competing is six sports – volleyball, basketball, ball hockey, badminton, soccer, and ultimate frisbee. Alberta Francophone Sports Federation executive director Monique Witzell feels the games are a great way to promote and preserve french language and culture in the province.
“Some of them are from francophone communities here in Alberta, or people who have moved to Alberta from other parts of the country, and in some cases we also have students from immersion schools who also participate.”
Opening ceremonies go tomorrow night at Ecole Nouvelle Frontiere. St Patrick and St Joe’s schools and Dave Barr arena will also host events during the games.
