Grande Prairie Regional Hospital completion on track for 2019

It’s been a little over a year since it was publicly revealed that the new Grande Prairie Regional Hospital was over budget and delayed. At that point the government confirmed the facility was $90 million over its original budget of 647.5, and its completion date had been pushed back from April 2017 to sometime in 2019.

At this point, health ministry spokesperson Timothy Wilson says they’re still on track for an opening within two years.

“It is encouraging that we are able to say that we are on track for 2019 completion date. Some of the most recent milestones we have hit is the building envelopes and some of the base building mechanical and electrical workings are about 97 per cent complete.”

Several major contract tenders had come in over budget, and Wilson says the re-tendering process is still underway. It’s expected contracts will be awarded in the next few months.
