White Christmas likely for Grande Prairie

Grande Prairie has seen less than five centimetres of snow this month, but it still looks like the city will have a white Christmas. In order to count, there needs to be at least two centimetres on the ground at 7 a.m. the morning of the 25th.

There’s currently five, and we might see some of the white stuff fall overnight. Periods of light snow are also in the forecast for Saturday.

Historically, the city has a 85 per cent chance of a white Christmas, and a 26 per cent chance of a “perfect” Christmas. That’s when there’s two or more centimetres of snow on the ground as well as snow in the air on Christmas Day. It’s unlikely we’ll have one of those in GP, as the forecast is calling for sunshine and a high of minus 17.
