Trevor Grant moved up to County Fire Chief

The County Regional Fire Service didn’t have to look far for its new fire chief. Trevor Grant has been promoted to replace Everett Cooke, who quit at the end of September. He moved to the County from High Level in 2011, and says he has no plans of moving again.

“That is my goal, anyway, to continue to make it my home. I do have roots here with my wife and I have some family here so I’m hoping to be here for quite some time.”

Grant was hired as a platoon captain and moved up to Deputy Fire Chief of Urban Operations in 2014. In addition to firefighting, he has a background in technical rescue, dangerous goods, and incident command. The new position is a dream in a career he’s wanted since he was young.

“Being able to be there to assist people in their greatest times of need, whether it’s during a medical event or a motor vehicle accident or a fire or even stopping to help someone change a tire on the side of the road.”

Community Services Director Arlen Miller has nothing but praise for the firefighter, who he calls well known and respected. He’ll get to work in his new position immediately. Dan Verdun has been the interim chief since Cooke’s departure and will remain on as Deputy Chief of Rural Operations and Training.
