Warkentin back in Canada following Ukraine's presidential elections

Following his first stint as an international observer, local MP Chris Warkentin has returned home from the Ukraine.

Warkentin was one of more than 500 Canadians who took part in monitoring the country’s presidential elections on Sunday to keep them fair and free from intimidation.

He says he was inspired by the country’s dedication to the democratic process.

“In the community that we were, the Dniprodzhercync’k area, people were not generally intimidated from coming out. As a matter of fact, in many places we saw results of up to 70% voter turn out, in some cases putting to shame what we would see here in a Canadian election.”

Warkentin says he also took time to tour the Maidan Square in Kiev, which was the site of many bloody protest in February and resulted in Sunday’s election.
