UPDATE: Extreme cold warning still in effect for Grande Prairie region

UPDATE: An extreme cold warning remains in effect for Grande Prairie, and has been extended to the Peace River region as well. It’s expected to warm up a bit this afternoon but some areas could see wind chills of minus 40 heading into Friday night.

Another extreme cold warning has been issued for the Grande Prairie – Beaverlodge – Valleyview region. Environment Canada expects wind chills of minus 40 overnight Thursday and into Friday morning. Some parts could see it that could again tomorrow evening.

Hypothermia and frost bite are worries in this type of weather and it is recommended to dress appropriately. Babies, the elderly, people working outside, and homeless are some of many that could be at risk of getting hypothermia or frost bite, if they are not dressed warmly.

Environment Canada also recommends protecting pets from the cold by limiting their time outside.
