Federal government clears way for new safe injection sites

The federal government has announced changes to laws that will make it easier for safe injection sites to open. Bill C-37 will mean the health minister can approve a site if there’s a proven need, the community has been consulted, crime will be impacted, and the right resources and regulatory systems are in place.

The move has gotten a thumbs up from Alberta’s Associate Minister of Health, while the Minister of Justice is happy the government is also stopping the unregistered importing of pill presses.

It’s expected as many as 3,000 Canadians will die from overdosing on opioids this year.
