Last day to nominate families for Sparky’s Secret Wish

Local firefighters will be helping families in need for the fourth year in a row this holiday season. The Grande Prairie Firefighters Charitable Foundation is doing another year of Sparky’s Secret Wish. Foundation Chair Dan MacLean says they really want to help people bear the burden in the hard economics times. He says they get around 50 nominations a year.

“You always get a few last minute that you hope to add. People have up until midnight to recommend someone they know. This year you see a lot more families that go down to one income or no income. It is a scary time for alot of families.”

Over the last three years, the campaign has given over $40,000 in donations to local families.

“We raise mone throughout the year with tournaments and calendar sales to raise this kind of money. It makes it worthwhile when you see those families who don’t have a lot and are able to put some food on the table.”

Nominations can be made gpfdcharity.com and the group will help families with gift cards.
