UPDATE: Man suspected of assaulting officer in custody

UPDATE: RCMP say they have a suspect in custody. The man was arrested this afternoon with the stolen Ford F-350. He’s awaiting a bail hearing.

A police officer was attacked by a break and enter suspect using bear spray early this morning. RCMP were responding to a call at a rural property northeast of Grande Prairie around 4 a.m.

The officer saw a vehicle in the area and when they tried to confront the driver, they were sprayed. The mountie was not seriously injured and was able to make it back to his vehicle to call for help, but during that time the suspect drove off through a field.

Police were able to find that vehicle a short time later, but found that another vehicle had been stolen from a property nearby.

RCMP are now looking for a white 2015 Ford F350 FXR with a sled deck, running boards, black rims and a light bar on the front. The truck’s licence plate is RVU200.

The people inside are considered armed and dangerous, and if a member of the public spots them, they should call 9-1-1 and not approach. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Grande Prairie detachment or Crime Stoppers.
