Fire truck involved in Whitecourt fatal collision

A woman has been killed in a collision with a firetruck early this morning on Highway 43 in Whitecourt. RCMP say the Woodlands County Fire tanker was on its way to a fire when it hit an SUV at an intersection around 6 a.m. Witnesses say the truck’s lights and sirens were on at the time.

The woman driving the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The two firefighters in the truck at the time weren’t hurt.

Police will likely be on the scene for several hours, and traffic has to detour at the intersection with Dahl Drive by the McDonald’s. The name of the deceased is not being released.

A Whitecourt Fire Department vehicle was damaged last weekend when it was parked at the base of Chickadee Hill as firefighters responded to two tractor trailers in the ditch. A third semi hit it and drove off, but RCMP were able to track down the driver and charge them.
