Proposed regional performing arts centre could add up to $121 million

A regional performing arts centre with all the bells and whistles could cost around $121,000,000. This comes from a six month study into whether there is a need for the 1,000 seat facility in the city. Karen McGrisken with the city says the basic building, parkade, and other basic costs like engineering would come out to close to $100,000,000.

“All the theatre and performing arts groups in the region were polled and they said “you know the base model is great, but we would really like to have this other stuff too.” The $20,000,000 difference is the “nice-to-have” stuff. There is a really a range [in pricing].”

The extras include things like archival storage, crying room, and commercial kitchen.

The proposed facility would be built near the Montrose Cultural Centre downtown.
