Fake money turning up around Whitecourt

Counterfeit bills have started to pop up in Whitecourt. RCMP say they’re hearing about more and more people trying to use fake money, especially $100 bills.

Since the beginning of August, police have gotten 15 reports of people trying to use counterfeit money at local stores. They’re asking residents to check their cash extra carefully, and to watch out for scotch tape, which could be a warning that their bills are bogus.

Anyone with information about where the notes are coming from is asked to contact the detachment or Crime Stoppers. RCMP in Grande Prairie busted a fake U.S. money operation at a motel this summer.
