Sandra Jansen leaves PCs to join NDP caucus

Sandra Jansen has crossed the floor. The now-former Progressive Conservative MLA announced the move with Premier Rachel Notley Thursday afternoon.

Two weeks prior, she had been in the running for the leadership of the PC’s, but dropped out after saying she had been harassed and intimidated by another candidate’s campaign. Jansen has said the decision to switch came after she saw the values of the PC Party be pushed aside.

“They are being pushed out by a party that I used to call my home. To see that legacy being kicked to the curb by extremists who are taking over the PC Party has been heartbreaking to me.”

Jansen had been with the Tories for the last 30 years, and was elected in 2008.
