UPDATE: Unusual laptop raises alarms at Grande Prairie Airport

UPDATE #2: Grande Prairie RCMP have confirmed they were called to the Grande Prairie Airport Thursday afternoon for a report of a suspicious device. Around 2 p.m., security officers noticed an unusual laptop while screening a passenger’s belongings.

The RCMP’s Explosive Disposal Unit and local computer technicians took and look and determined it was a specialized computer and didn’t pose a safety risk. The passenger was able to make his flight and all operations have returned to normal.

UPDATE: Operations have returned to normal at the Grande Prairie Airport and the terminal is back open for regular business. No confirmation yet on the nature of the security issue.

No one is being allowed in and out of the Grande Prairie Airport as of 2:45 p.m. Thursday. CEO Brian Grant says they’re in the middle of an operational security issue and RCMP have just arrived.
