School in Signature Falls gets second playground

After two years of getting money together, Mother Teresa school now has a second playground. The school is part of the Grande Prairie and District Catholic School Division. Principal Henri Chauvet says they realized they needed to build another playground a few years after opening 7 years ago.

“It was always “what do we do?”. We did something for the little guys. When are we going to do something for the older kids? There is too many [kids] to put on [the younger side] of the school. After a few years after we opened, they asked what are we going to do now. We now have a little bit of everything. We will be good for a number of years now.”

The 6 person parent council at Mother Teresa initiated the process two years ago and raised $230,000 to be build it. Money was brought in the form of fundraising dollars, sponsorship and grant money.

“We never had things for the [older] kids to do besides the basketball court. By putting this in, it really keeps the kids engaged and moving which is what we want.”
