Grande Prairie Catholic School Board and Unifor reach three year deal

The Grande Prairie Catholic School District has reached a three year agreement with Unifor for its support staff.

Board Vice Chair Michael Ouelette was pleased to see the deal reached after only two days of negotiations.

“I think they went really well. Both sides knew that we had to come to an agreement, and we came to an agreement very quickly, which shows that both sides were very willing to work together for the best of the students.”

Ouelette stresses the importance of having a good working relationship with the support staff union.

“It’s so important to be able to work well with the groups that are involved in the schools. They play a massive in our district. They’re very important in our schools and we respect that.”

The agreement still needs to be ratified by both the Unifor Local 328 members and the Board of Trustees in mid-June, ahead of its September 1st, 2014 implementation.

If approved, the terms of the agreement will be made public.
