New regional hospital on track for April 2017 completion

The new Grande Prairie Regional Hospital has become quite a bit more visible over the past few months, and work is still on track to wrap up in April 2017.

The $621 M facility will offer 200 new in patient beds, 9 operating rooms, and will act as the primary care facility in the city.

QE II and Grande Prairie area Senior Operating Officer Joan Libsekal says they’ve started to create a workforce projection model as well for the some 18-hundred to 2000 people expected to be employed by the new hospital.

“That entails looking at what we’ve currently got and then looking at the services we’re going to provide, and then we figure out how many nurses we will need and of what type. So is it registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, whatever we need for the services we want to provide.”

Libsekal says once the hospital is complete, it should be operational and accepting patients about six months later.
