Authorities investigating death of worker near Fox Creek

An investigation is underway into the death of a worker at a Shell Canada drilling site near Fox Creek. A 47 year old man was killed on October 23rd when he was struck by a hose early in the evening.

Lauren Welsh with Occupational Health and Safety says crews were pumping water next to a river when one of the pumps started revving. When an employee with Secure Energy Services went to check it out, one of the hoses let go and hit him. He was taken to the local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The site has been shut down, and OHS is investigating, along with RCMP and Shell. Counselling is being provided to employees in the meantime.
