New judge appointed to the Northern Region Provincial Court

A new judge has been appointed to the Northern Region Provincial Court. Jasmine Sihra has experience in the peace region with work in criminal, family, real estate and corporate law in Grande Prairie and she has served as Crown Prosecutor since 2007.

She graduated at the University of Alberta with a commerce degree in 1989 and went on to get a Master’s degree in 1993. She also has experience at the Grande Prairie Regional College teaching law and business classes.

Before an appointee is chosen, they are screened by the Alberta Judicial Council and interviewed by the Provincial Court Nominating Committee. Minister of Justice and Solicitor General Kathleen Ganley appointed Sihra along with Michelle Doyle and D’Arcy DePoe. The other two were appointed to the Edmonton Criminal Provincial Court.
