New parking restriction for 100th Avenue

If your house is on 100th Avenue between 92nd Street and 96th Street and faces the street, you will no longer be able to park in front of your home. City traffic engineer supervisor Robin Hutchison says a study was done on the stretch of road east of the new Mac’s store. It found that there was an increase of traffic and the city needed to open up all of the lanes for drivers.

“We are seeing a need for the lanes during peak times and during the off peak times.”

Right now, there is parts of the road under a parking restriction at certain times of the day. Between 94th and 95th Street, there is no parking allowed from 7:00 am to 9:00 am and 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

The new 24 hour parking restriction will be in place 24 hours a day all along that part of 100th Ave. Hutchison says all residents in that area do have the ability to park in their driveways or have another form of parking on their property.

“The other concerns that have been identified is the speed on 100th Avenue. We don’t want to see an increase of collisions involving parked vehicles.”

In the last three years, Hutchison says there has been three collisions involving a vehicle hitting a parked vehicle on that stretch of road. He says during the study they also noticed that some vehicles were driving about 7 kilometres over the speed limit and that is a concern.

Letters will be sent out to residents in the next few weeks and the restriction will be implemented sometime before Christmas.
