MP Warkentin concerned about European trade deal falling apart

It doesn’t look like Canada’s Comprehensive Economic Trade Agreement with Europe will be signed this week as planned. European Parliament President Martin Schulz has said he’s no longer confident a solution can be reached. It’s also possible the summit scheduled for Thursday may have to be postponed.

Grande Prairie – Mackenzie MP Chris Warkentin argues the federal government has simply given up, a decision that will risk important economic trade opportunities for the Peace country. He says the free trade agreement would have reduced or eliminated the tariffs on most exports from the region, like beef, grain, honey and forest products.
