Peace Regional RCMP officer charged with assaulting prisoner

An officer with the Peace Regional RCMP detachment has been charged with assault causing bodily harm. Corporal Mark Potts was reported on April 20th by a fellow officer.

It’s alleged that Potts assaulted a prisoner while transporting him from Manning to Peace River on April 15th of this year. The mountie was suspended from duty earlier this month and will stay off-duty until his charge has been dealt with.

Sergeant Jack Poitras explains that this is standard RCMP practice and is not considered disciplinary action. He could not confirm whether Potts is suspended with pay, but notes it is common practice as well since he has not been proven guilty.
