FireSmart work begins in the Dunes area

A program will be initiated in the Dunes area which will deal with dead or dying pine trees. Starting October 20th, the County fire crews will be working on 37 hectares of trees as part of the FireSmart program. They will be removing 50 per cent of the standing and blown over pines.

County Fire Marshall Ken Atamanchuk says the removal of the trees is part of their Wildfire Mitigation Strategy.There has been warning signs posted in the area. Crews will be working on the area until mid-November. The County is recommending that people avoid the area and do not use off-highway vehicles.
