Alberta won’t cut health or education spending: Notley

In her state of the province address Wednesday, Premier Rachel Notley indicated that cuts in education and healthcare will not be coming from the NDP government. The address came as the province is grappling with a $10 billion dollar, and as the current government is dropping in poll approval.

When asked about whether or not the province has seen the worst of the economic downturn, Notley indicated caution will be the path forward.

“We still are looking at the pace of investment in capital expenditure will be in the years to come; I don’t think we can entirely predict that yet. We’re cautiously optimistic but we are still planning to manage as though things have not started to improve.”

Notley also says the drop in government revenue can be handled “for a time.”
