Post-secondary tuition freeze extended through 2018

The province has extended its tuition freeze for another year. Post-secondary students will not see an increase for the 2017-2018 academic year.

Minister of Advanced Education Marlin Schmidt says the government is working to review the tuition and fee model in Alberta with stakeholders. They’re also looking at the funding model for institutions.

The review will lead to direction on how to increase costs fairly and with predictability. It will also cover mandatory non-instructional fees, tuition for international students and student aid.

A two-year tuition freeze was announced as part of the NDP government’s first budget in the fall of 2015.
