Province to spend $500,000 over two years to help struggling new parents

A new provincial initiative to help out vulnerable parents is coming to Grande Prairie.

The province is going to be testing out a new Welcome to Parenting program over the next two years, in an effort to promote positive early childhood development to children born into more difficult circumstances.

New parents needing a little extra help can receive a “baby basket” including blankets, toys, and books for the little ones, along with information for the parents.

Three other communities will be taking part in the $500,000 project, including Edmonton, Calgary, and Coaldale.
