Alberta government launches public survey on curriculum overhaul

The Alberta government is laying down some big plans for education reform. The set of new initiatives are part of what they’re calling the “Future Ready” program.

It involves several ministries and will have input from industry, professionals, teachers and parents. The first step is a survey open to the public on the province’s website. Six core subjects are under review and it will be available until November 18th

Notley’s announcement has already been met with criticism in some areas. Wildrose Shadow Education Minister Mark Smith released a statement today saying he disagrees with using an online survey instead of more substantive consultations.

He says parents know what’s best for their children’s education and should play a larger role and that he doesn’t want to see students become “guinea pigs” throughout the review.
